Side of the House

Next we continued to peel sod and level out the side yard through to the front walkway. We set in
6-8"
thick 'fingers' of stone to create a border for the gardens which would line the outside edge of the path leading to the backyard. This area was then layered with about 2-3" of screenings and watered and tamped in several times.
We had the driveway paved in the meantime. The concrete patio slabs were removed from the front walkway and this area was levelled and screenings spread from the front porch to the top of
the driveway with areas on both sides for gardens.

Setting Down Stone

Terry brought in the truck loaded with the larger stone slabs and we started putting a jigsaw puzzle together! A few corners and angles were smoothed together with the help of a saw but for the most part we worked with the original shapes.
Each piece had to be levelled and screenings filled in and/or removed to set them in place. The slabs ranged in thickness from 2-4". Once the pieces were set in place more screenings were swept and stuffed and poked into the seams! Everything was than watered in and more screenings stuffed into the crevasses. This
process was then repeated on the second level of
the patio over to where the side gate would eventually be.
